Theologians have argued this for years. Well,,, let them argue. The answer is simple. God willing, we'll talk more about this in time, but for now let's simply answer the question, yes or no, and back it up with scripture.
No, there is not life in an ever burning hell fire.
In Romans 6:23 we read, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
What are the wages of sin? Death. We all know what death is, no matter whether we are talking about spiritual death, or physical death.
What is the gift of God? Eternal life. We all know what eternal life is. It is living forever.
Obviously,, there must be a difference between the two.
As Paul has placed these two clauses in opposition to each other, we know that there must be a difference between the first (wages of sin) and the second (gift of God).
We all know what it means when we are told that if we or our loved ones were to die without having accepted Christ,, that we would burn in hell forever and ever. That is a simple teaching. We could say that to burn in hell forever and ever means to live in torment forever and ever. Is that not the teaching of most Christian religions?
Is the gift of God eternal life or not? The Bible says that it is.
Are the wages of sin eternal life? The Bible says that they aren't.
If the doctrine of an ever-burning hell fire is correct, then Romans 6:23 must be thrown out of the Bible, because the doctrine of an ever-burning hell-fire teaches that the wages of sin is an eternal life (of torment).
Which is it? Are the wages of sin death? Or are the wages of sin an eternal life of torment in hell-fire?
We can take our pick as to what to believe. As for me, I'll choose to believe Romans 6:23.
Hopefully, we'll have a chance to discuss other aspects of this in the future, but here is a foundation of hope for us (for weren't we all unrepentant sinners at one time or another?), and all of those who have died without having accepted Christ... Maybe someone you knew and loved???
